Hi, I'm Erin, and welcome to Environmental Writes! I'm currently taking classes at College of DuPage and I hope to get my degree in English or Creative Writing.

I grew up here in the suburbs of Illinois, where opportunities to be outside are few and far between, but I fell in love with nature very young. My grandparents lived in the Catskill Mountains in New York and some of my favorite memories are of the times I'd be allowed to wander the woods around their house alone, just exploring and taking in the vastness of the mountains and the stillness of the forest. I think those were the times that fed my love for hiking. Personally, I don't think there's any better therapy than a long walk. In fact, the top thing on my bucket list is to take the longest walk the world has to offer: the Appalachian Trail, 2,192 miles worth of therapy. (A company is actually trying to build an oil pipeline through the trail, something I'll absolutely be writing about here.)

While Illinois is great in its own way, it doesn't exactly offer a ton of opportunities to see the great outdoors, and in some ways I'm very thankful for that. Spending so much time inside during the sub-zero winters gave me the opportunity to grow a passion for writing. Like hiking, I developed a love for writing pretty young. I started writing short stories and poetry while I was still in elementary school, and I've continued writing pretty much every day since.

When I'm not either walking or writing, you can expect to find me either listening to one of my many favorite podcasts (fiction and true crime are the way to go!) trying to find new music on Spotify, or impulsively dyeing my hair.

At the end of the day, I am someone who is deeply passionate about a lot of things, but the world we live in is at the top of that list. On this website, I'll have the opportunity to talk more about important issues surrounding our environment, and I will always advocate for our planet.
